Kem One acquires new hybrid river barges to transport its products to Saint-Fons (Lyon)

Project 10 July 2021

The order for two new self-propelled hybrid river barges (diesel-electric propulsion) was formalized by Kem One on the 17th of March, 2021, involving an investment of 20 million euros.

From 2023 onwards, these self-propelled vessels will transport the vinyl chloride produced on the industrial sites of Fos-sur-Mer and Lavéra by the river Rhône to the Saint-Fons industrial site, near Lyon.

The industrial will become the first shipper on the river Rhône to green its raw material’s transport fleet. The two self-propelled hybrid river barges will avoid around 2 000 tons of CO2 each year (cut of 30-35%).

Kem One has been supported by Navigable Waterways of France (VNF) and has committed to greening his fleet when it joined Fret21. The industrial will benefit from contributions from the Modernization Assistance Plan (PAMI) and the European Feder fund.
