Retrofitting of Kem One Fos’s salt electrolysis unit

Project 19 March 2021

Kem One just announced a further investment of over 100 million euros on its industrial site of Fos-sur-Mer in order to convert its diaphragm process electrolysis unit into a membrane process. This new unit’s commissioning is expected in 2024.

This investment is supported by a 15 million euros funding by France’s strategic industries recovery plan. This retrofitting will lead to an optimisation of the site’s electricity and natural gas consumption and reduce its CO2 emissions by 50 000t/y.

This significant investment adds to another investment of 80 million euros on an ethylene storage tank whose construction is ongoing. It’s commissioning is expected in 2022.
