Use of bio-LNG to decarbonize maritime transport

Project 5 July 2021

Monday July 5, 2021, TotalEnergies, CMA CGM, EveRé and Elengy announced their collaboration for the production of liquefied bio-methane (LNG) for maritime transport.

Since 2010, EveRé operates Marseille’s household waste treatment center and produces bio-methane with the fermentable portion of the household waste. This project aims to liquefy this bio-gas, store the bio-LNG in Elengy’s LNG terminals and supply CMA CGM Group’s LNG powered ship fleet with the LNG bunker boat of TotalEnergies.

Supplying CMA CGM Group’s fleet with bio-LNG should reduce each LNG ship’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 67%.
